About The Bentonville Bulletin

The Bentonville Bulletin, founded in April of this year, is an independent local news publication dedicated to publishing useful, interesting local news.

A key focus of our audience strategy is email newsletter distribution. We already have more than 4,000 email subscribers.

The venture was started by Sam Hoisington, an NWA native who previously launched a successful and stable local news operation in Wisconsin.

While the business is new, our values are firmly rooted in established journalistic traditions and ethics.

Key Responsibilities:

Set and execute the news agenda for The Bentonville Bulletin.
Produce multiple original news articles weekly while maintaining high journalistic standards.
Attend public meetings and other in-person events.
Supervise one reporter and edit freelance submissions.
Sort through news tips from an engaged group of newsletter subscribers.
Adhere strictly to ethical guidelines and standards from the Society of Professional Journalists.
Collaborate with the publisher to determine next steps for a promising news startup.
Work nights and weekends on rare occasions when significant news developments occur.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of local news experience.
Excellent research, writing, and interviewing skills.
Local candidates are strongly preferred.

Compensation Details

This is a salaried position with a starting salary of $55,000 per year, with room for negotiation for exceptional candidates. Benefits include two weeks of vacation, plus an additional week off during winter holidays

If you've lost your job as a designer at a local newspaper, you know this to be true. You've seen what happened to hometown news as papers farmed out their work to far-off design centers.

The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin needs a page designer and magazine editor.

We are part of the family-owned Seatte Times Co. You'll be part of our affiliate design hub, which builds print and eEditions for the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, the Yakima Herald-Republic and Yakima's Spanish language weekly, El Sol de Yakima.

You'll be based in the Union-Bulletin newsroom.

Essentially, here's the job:

Review daily budgets with Union-Bulletin editor.
Design and build clean, effective news, sports and feature pages in the BLOX TCMS for print, eEditions.
Send pages to press, PageSuite.
Design, build and send advance pages.
Coordinate and edit content, design pages for monthly Lifestyles Magazine.
Fill in as necessary for Yakima Herald-Republic, El Sol de Yakima.

Position requirements:

Exceptional print design skills and news judgment.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Accuracy.
Strong interpersonal skills.

Experience: A newsroom internship or experience as part of a post-collegiate newsroom staff designing print pages.
